A two-day international conference themed ‘Use of 57 State Political Parties inviting them to participate in a
Technology and Election Integrity’ hosted by
Election Commission of India in New Delhi on
January 23-24, 2023 drew participation from EMBs
of 16 nations including Angola, Armenia, Chile,
Croatia, Dominica, Fiji, Georgia, Indonesia,
Kiribati, Mauritius, Nepal, Paraguay, Peru, the
Philippines and Suriname. It was organised as a
follow up to ‘Summit for Democracy’, under which
India co-leads the Cohort on Electoral Integrity.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, while
underscoring the importance of technology in
ensuring inclusivity and transparency in elections,
expressed his concerns at the “deep fake narratives”
on social media platforms that tend to mislead the
voters. He stressed on the need for using AI to
detect the “deep fakes”. The two-day conference was
split into several sessions, each dealing with specific
themes. A brochure published by Election
Commission of India titled ‘Global Initiatives in
the Use of Technology in Elections’ was also
released on the occasion.
