                              defeated  T.N.  Seshan,  the  former  Chief  Election
                              Commissioner. At 9,56,290 K.R. Narayanan obtained highest
                              ever votes secured in the history of Presidential elections.
                              The margin of victory, exceeding nine lakh votes, was the
                              highest in history. In the Vice Presidential elections held on
