Second General Election (1957)

The second general elections for reconstituting the House of the People and Source: Report on the Second General
the State Legislative Assemblies were completed by March 1957. A series of Elections in India (1957)
strategic Constitutional and legislative amendments and administrative measures
coupled with time bound action led to the effective conduct of elections despite the
uncertainty that emerged on account of reorganization of States in 1956, shortly
before the elections.
