Dura on) Amendment Act, 1976.
However, on January 17, 1977, the then Prime Minister
Indira Gandhi advised the President to dissolve the House
with immediate effect. The dissolu on under Ar cle 85
(2) (b) of the Cons tu on necessitated the conduct of a
fresh general elec on to cons tute the Sixth Lok Sabha.
