On June 25, 1975 the President of India Dr. Fakhruddin Ali
Ahmed promulgated Emergency under Ar cle 352 (1). On
February 16, 1976, in view of the Emergency, the
Parliament extended the dura on of Fi h Lok Sabha by a
period of one year up to March 18, 1977 by enac ng House
of the People (Extension of Dura on) Act, 1976.
Meanwhile, amendment of Ar cle 83 (2) of the
Cons tu on of India by Cons tu on (Forty Second
Amendment) Act, 1976 extended the normal tenure of the
