LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY FOR ELECTIONS

Na onal Voters' Service Portal (2019):
A one-stop voter solu on portal, available at
h ps://www.nvsp.in/, was launched on September 01,
2019. This is the revamped version of the original portal
launched on Na onal Voters' Day in 2015. It offers a range
of e-services to voters including enrollment, rec fica on
of entries, migra on to another Assembly Cons tuency.

ERONET introduced (2018):

It was in August 1997 that the Elec on Commission first
undertook the computerisa on of electoral rolls.
However, since then the data had been stored in separate
databases and applica ons. There were, un l recently, 36
disparate applica ons in use star ng from simple Excel to
an advanced Oracle that required maintenance of 36
Physical Data centres supported by as many service
providers. The introduc on of ERONET has been game
changer. Now all 28 states and 8 union territories share
common infrastructure at Na onal Level. The UNPER
(Unified Na onal Photo Electoral Roll) is the common
database for all 91 crore voters. This web-based system
allows Electoral officials to process Forms in 14 languages
and 11 scripts. The ERONET acts as a backbone for data
entered by ci zens on Na onal Voters' Service Portal i.e.
nvsp.in or through Voter Helpline App. The ERONET helps
in maintenance of the integrity of Electoral Roll, etc.
